8/15/2023 0 Comments Tuxera vs paragon ntfs mac![]() ![]() While you would have to leave iTunes on the Mac running to use Home Sharing, if you make the Mac the "main" iTunes library / streaming computer, then this method may be just as convinient. They can do so with inexpensive utilities such as Tuxera on the Mac, and Paragon. The PC can "open" the iTunes library by using Home Sharing. say Macs can't save to NTFS-formatted drives, and PCs can't use HFS+. But otherwise, just stream from the Mac if possible. (NTFS writing is potentially slower with NTFS-3G, according to the FAQ.) If you plan to use the external drive for storing PC files in addition to the iTunes library, then you don't have a choice. Leave it in Mac HFS format, which the Mac has better performance with than NTFS. Paragon NTFS for Mac solves this problem. IOW, does the PC "need" to open the shared iTunes library? If not, then there's no need (or less need) to have the drive formatted NTFS. For adding HFS+/APFS support for Windows, Im looking. So I can recommend using MacFUSE or NTFS-3G.īoth the Mac and the PC to the Apple TV? Do you really need to? Or even open the same music files from iTunes on either computer. 1 Since now I am starting to get comfortable with macOS, Im starting to think about compatibility of filesystems, mainly for external drives. Often I will just transfer over the LAN, but some of the server images, it's faster to use an external FIrewire hard drive. The only real difference is that the free version is usually a generation behind the commercial one and doesn't have the same level of tech support. From the test, it is evident that theres a huge performance gap between macs native disk format (Mac OS Extended) and the Tuxera NTFS, whether in terms of simple file copy with Finder or in terms of loading thumbnails within Eagle UI, in the worst-case tested as above, the Tuxera NTFS can only run the drive at 21. There are two versions, a free one and the Tuxera commercial one. I use it because I use VMWare Fusion to run various Windows server and desktop OS', and it's vital for me to be able to copy/move 20-100GB virtual machine files. I've used NTFS-3G for several years and have had no issues with it. I just starting installing my utilities again and downloaded the newest version of NTFS-3G. I've not had a problem with NTFS-3G in the two years (or so) I've been using it. 0 1 My Mac partition recently got corrupted to the point of needing a fresh install. Correct me if I'm wrong.) I've never used Paragon NTFS, so I can't comment on it. Still, (consumer) file system stability is a rather vague statistical notion there are people with bad experience for Mounty, Tuxera and Paragon drivers, not to mention Microsoft own driver in Windows. Although it is blazing fast compared to my older APFS formatted drive. I guess I am wondering whether the issue is with Paragon or Tuxera or my NTFS formatting. I am on a MBP Apple Silicon with 8gb RAM. I will have some large movie files on the drive, maybe including my iTunes library. TUFS is released under BSD license with certain components under LGPL and APSL. It is customized to work seamlessly together with the driver component in Tuxera NTFS for Mac, and published as open source for reference. (If you have multiple NTFS drives you want to write to, add a different line for each. I have an external drive that I want to use with a OS X 10.6 MacBook Pro and with a Windows PC. TUFS is Tuxera’s customized fork of MacFUSE, used in Tuxera NTFS for Mac. I noticed with APFS it is very slow to load and when running the video it stutters. Press Ctrl+O to save the file after you’re done, and then press Ctrl+X to close nano. ![]() I was also thinking if I should just do away with NTFS and reformat my drive to APFS? Would it be faster? I need to regularly access my video files and run/edit those on the drive so I need fast access speed. Now I was wondering if this is something with Paragon or my HDD is giving up? I purchased it few months ago so it's almost brand new. Anybody else experience anything like this? Luckily I was able to recover most of my files. The file size was intact but the video wouldn't play. Recently Tuxera became very slow on my new MAC Silicon so I replaced Tuxera with Paragon NTFS and after cutting and pasting some video files from my MBP to the Seagate external HDD I noticed that quite a few of videos were corrupted. I have been using NTFS with Tuxera to read and write. If you have external drive, you can format that as ExFAT to use for both MacOs and Windows. Both MacOs and Windows can read and write to this partition. I do a lot of videography and editing so my files are mostly mp4 and mov. ago NTFS is read only when mounted from MacOs Hence we Normally create another partition of 50 GB and using MacOs Disk Utility format that 50GB as ExFAT. It has been mentiond 29 times since March 2021. So I have been using 4TB Seagate external HDD to back up my files. Based on our record, OSXFUSE should be more popular than Tuxera NTFS for Mac. ![]()
